📣 New Project Launch: “In My Words” – Supporting Children Who Do Not Speak English
At Rainbow Fostering, we are proud to announce the launch of our new initiative:
“In My Words” – a project designed to support asylum-seeking children entering the UK who do not speak English as their first language.
🗣️ What is “In My Words”?
This project is centred on making sure every child feels heard, understood, and supported – right from the start. We’re beginning by translating our Children and Young People’s Guide, FAQs & key resources into a wide range of languages including Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Farsi, Vietnamese, Urdu and more. These guides are key to helping children understand who we are, what fostering is, what their rights are, and what to expect in their new home – all in their own words and in a language they understand.
🏡 Why It Matters
Each year, many children arrive in the UK having fled conflict, trauma, and instability. As they are welcomed into foster families, one of the biggest challenges they face is the language barrier – which can leave them feeling isolated, misunderstood, and anxious in their new environment. The “In My Words” Project aims to change that.
Language is more than just words – it’s connection. It’s how children express their fears, ask for help, build relationships, and settle into a safe and loving foster family. By removing the language barrier, we’re creating space for comfort, trust, and confidence to grow.
🏫 Working With Schools
We’re also extending this support beyond the home by working with schools and local education partners to help children integrate into English-speaking classrooms. From creating multilingual resources to advising school staff on cultural awareness and inclusion, we are committed to helping each child thrive in their education.
🌍 Looking Ahead
“In My Words” is just the beginning! We envision a more inclusive and empathetic fostering experience, where language never stands in the way of care, connection, and belonging.
If you are a school, educator, foster carer or professional and would like to get involved or learn more about this project – we’d love to hear from you. Let’s work together to build a more supportive future for every child, in every language.
